Honoring Stefanie Spielman

The holiday season gives us a perfect opportunity to reflect on the past year’s events and cherish those closest to us. Here at Komen Columbus, we would like to pay tribute to a close friend and remarkable woman, Stefanie Spielman.  It has been just barely a month since Stefanie has passed and her spirit and support are stronger than ever in Central Ohio. She was tireless in her 11-year battle against breast cancer, raising more than $6.5 million for cancer research through the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the James Cancer Hospital.

When asked about Stefanie and her mission, Dr. Michael Caligiuri, chief executive officer of the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital had these kind words to say, “She will be missed, but never forgotten. Her passion and commitment will live on for generations to come. She’s truly a champion.”

We couldn’t agree more. Whenever we asked for Stefanie’s participation, she was there – whether on Race Day or to advocate for funding for all women to have access to critical breast screenings. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris and her children and we will continue to fight Stefanie’s fight and we will race until we find a cure.
