Warm up with a Block ‘O’ Scarf

It is no secret that living in Columbus, Ohio we are home to the Buckeye Nation!! The Ohio State Buckeyes have been such a huge part of what makes this city so special to so many people. So, when Stefanie Spielman, wife of former Ohio State Buckeye Chris Spielman, was diagnosed with breast cancer more than 12 years ago, the city of Columbus woke up and Buckeye fans joined together for a greater cause. The couple started the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research and throughout her heroic battle raised more than $13 million for The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Sadly, Stefanie lost her battle with breast cancer just this past November but her name, her legacy and her fight still continue to be a driving force for the people in Columbus and we have proof of it right here. The International Development Collaborative is selling Ohio State scarves and hats to benefit The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. The scarves are made out of alpaca wool and have a hand embroidered Ohio State Block ‘O’ woven on them. From now until March 31, $5 for every scarf and $3 for every hat purchased will go directly to the Spielman Fund. All you have to do is enter the code “STEFANIE” when ordering the products online at http://www.IDCvillage.org.

WBNS 10TV News reported The International Development Collaborative was created by former Fisher College of Business students after traveling to Bolivia in March 2008 for a study on emerging markets. The villagers asked for help finding a market for their products and this is exactly why members of IDC decided to take on this collaborative project. All of the Buckeye gear is hand made by Bolivian women living on the village the students visited and partial proceeds will also go towards helping improve village conditions.

This project is a truly unique, genuine effort made by an organization trying to help as many people as possible through one simple act.  Komen Columbus is so proud to support any fundraising initiative benefiting the Spielman Fund and we look forward to seeing the results of this incredible act of kindness.
