Volleyball season is quickly approaching and along with it, the annual Volley for the Cure series. Get your high school team involved in the fight against breast cancer by participating in Volley for the Cure, a program designed to promote awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer among high school girls. Registration is now open for the 2010 season through the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association.
We’ll provide your team with educational materials, fun Komen items and talking points about breast cancer. There is no minimum amount required to donate, but many teams choose to hold fundraisers or organize activities to raise money to support breast cancer education, treatment and screening services in Central and Southeastern Ohio. Some activities have included:
- Bake Sales
- Concession Items donated or discounted from local restaurants
- Silent/live Auctions
- Event t-shirt Sales
- Sale of pink items
Teams often encourage community members to wear pink on the night of the Volley for the Cure game and take part in the fundraising activities leading up to the game.
Volley for the Cure was created as a way to honor and celebrate two Ohio women who fought breast cancer. Unfortunately too many people are affected by breast cancer no matter their age or location, and Volley for the Cure provides an outlet for young athletes to get involved and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
