To organize the annual Komen Columbus Race for Cure, planning begins months in advance. Dedicated volunteers come together to discuss every detail of the Race, from stuffing survivor bags to ordering enough food for Race participants to coordinating all the banners that color the course on Race day.
Megan Sullivan has been on the committee for the past four years and currently serves as the Volunteer Chair, responsible for coordinating the more than 1,000 volunteers needed on Race Day. Meghan works with a committee to contact area groups and organizations encouraging them to volunteer together, along with motivating individuals to volunteer.
“I love when volunteers start getting in touch with me to get involved,” Meghan said. “It’s a great feeling hearing from volunteers in May 2010 that they’ll be back in May 2011.”
Meghan is busy months before the Race begins getting things organized, but enjoys seeing the thousands of people race down Broad Street on Race morning. “Seeing the endless sea of people racing in support of a cure is my favorite thing about the Race.”
