Watch out for the big, pink van!

When was the last time you saw a big, pink van on the roads? Watch out, because a new set of pink wheels is on the road now delivering a lifesaving service to women in Central and Southeastern Ohio.

We were so excited to attend the mobile mammography unit unveiling and dedication today, and are proud to partner with the Limited Brands Foundation and OhioHealth in making an extraordinary pledge to the women in our community: that every woman will have the opportunity to access lifesaving mammography services, regardless of her financial ability, when and where it is most convenient for her.

Directing the creation of the new Mobile Mammography Unit were Karen Morrison, President, OhioHealth Foundation, Janelle Simmons, Director of Community Relations and Philanthropy for the Limited Brands Foundation, Katie Carter, Komen Columbus Executive Director, and Connie Browning, Komen Columbus Board President.

Thanks to the generous community support (and Race registrations!) we have received, we were able to donate $200,000, which was matched by the Limited Brands Foundation, that supported the purchase of a new state-of-the-art mobile mammography vehicle that will serve women throughout Franklin and surrounding counties in central and southern Ohio.

The vehicle will visit workplaces, community organizations and other locations offering breast health screening and other services aimed at saving lives through earlier and better detection of breast cancer.

The mobile unit has come a long way!

This partnership fulfills a mission all three organizations share: to make it possible for more women in central Ohio to have access to the most advanced digital technology available for breast cancer screening, regardless of their ability to pay.

In addition to extending OhioHealth’s reach into the community, the mobile unit will also be able to visit central Ohio businesses that wish to bring access to screenings to employees. Access to the mobile unit’s services will be available to all women, regardless of ability to pay. If you’re interested in bringing the van to your community, email or call (614) 566-4096.
