OSU Students Making an Impact

Hello Komen Columbus followers!

We are Desa Rae Herndon and Sarah Graf, students at The Ohio State University and weekly volunteers at Komen Columbus.

We are involved in Mount Leadership Society, a scholars program at Ohio State devoted to leadership and service. During our first year, we participated in many community service opportunities with this organization. Through this, we were able to encounter new experiences and make long-lasting connections. Now, in our second year, we chose to commit to serving with one organization in order to make a more significant impact over a longer period of time.

In September 2010, we began weekly service with Komen Columbus. We committed to 75 hours of service with this organization to learn more about our community and its needs. We were anxious to join the Komen Columbus team because both of our lives have been touched by breast cancer and we are passionate about the cause.

Through our involvement with Komen Columbus, we have been inspired to create a team for the 2011 Race for the Cure which we named Buckeyes for the Cure. We are working to recruit members and raise money for the Race in the upcoming months. Our goal is to make Ohio State students, faculty, and staff more aware of what Komen Columbus does and its impact on our community. We plan to do this by recruiting at least 50 members to participate in the Race with us in May.

We are thankful for the opportunity to be involved with Komen Columbus and we are excited to continue to raise money and support for such a wonderful organization!
