Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Week One

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and with it, you’ll start to see lots of pink items in grocery stores, at sporting events and all around town. We hope you’ll take time this month to take note of your breast health. Know your risk for breast cancer and educate yourselves on healthy living options. Early detection saves livesthe five-year survival rate for breast cancer when caught early is 98 percent. When it’s not? 23 percent. Take action and make your health a priority. 

There are plenty of ways to get involved in the fight against breast cancer this October, and the first week of the month will be an especially busy one.


October 6: Wacoal Fit for the Cure from 10 am – 5 pm at Macy’s at Tuttle Crossing. Just for trying on a bra, Wacoal will donate $2 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. (No purchase necessary). Wacoal will also donate $2 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® for every Wacoal bra, shapewear piece or b.tempt’d bra purchased at these events.

October 6: Partners in Survival conference with the Haven of Hope Cancer Foundation and Men Against Breast Cancer from 5:30-8:30 pm at The Haven of Hope. For more information or to register for this free seminar for couples, call 614-383-6256.

October 6: Join us for a girls’ night out at the Condos for the Cure open house from 4-7 pm at the beautiful model home at the Seldom Seen Development in Powell. Enjoy light refreshments and live entertainment while browsing goodies from Mukha Custom Cosmetics and Medi-Spa, Over My Head Boutique, Stella & Dot and Thirty-One Gifts. No RSVP is required and all are welcome to attend this free event.

October 6, 7 and 8: Tucci’s Wine Tasting Event
Join Tucci’s California Bistro for an evening of food, wine and fundraising from 6-9 pm on October 6, 7 and 8. The evening includes appetizers from Chef Bradley Balch and more than 35 wines to sample, with $3 from each ticket supporting Komen Columbus. Tickets are $40 each and can be ordered by calling 614-792-3466.

Jersey Mike’s Way to a Cure
From now until October 31, Jersey Mike’s will donate to Komen 70 cents per pink souvenir cup, 70 cents per Pink Ribbon combo and 100 percent of the retail price of each t-shirt sold. There are 13 locations in the Columbus area, so visit one today.

Save Lids to Save Lives with Yoplait
Purchase Yoplait Yogurts with the pink lids and redeem each lid online or in the mail before December 31, 2011. Yoplait will donate 10 cents from every lid to local Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliates, up to $2 million. Lids can be redeemed online, or feel free to mail your clean lids to our office, 929 Eastwind Drive, Suite 211, Westerville, OH 43081, and we’ll make sure they get redeemed in time.
