First and foremost, we would like to thank all of this year’s 44,000 runners and walkers for making the 2012 Race for the Cure a success. You helped raise nearly $2 million that will support vital breast health services in Central and Southeastern Ohio and scientific research to find the cures for breast cancer.We especially wish to thank our sponsors for their financial and in-kind support. Also, a huge thanks to all of our 1000+ volunteers that gave their time and talents to plan, prepare and carry out an amazing and memorable Race for all. And to our more than 2,000 survivors in attendance and also those who fought hard but lost their battle to this horrible disease—“You all drive us to work hard to fulfill our mission of providing breast health education, screening and treatment to underserved and uninsured men and women in our communities,” says Katie Carter, executive director of Komen Columbus.
A big congratulations to all of this year’s winners, both teams and individuals! For those who purchased a timing chip, your results are posted here. Our team winners were divided into four corporate divisions based on number of employees. The winners are:
• Division 3- Value City Furniture with 297 team members
• Division 4- The LimitedBrands with 7,879 team members (the largest team in Komen history!)
For Civic teams, those comprised of friends and family, Team Perez was the big winner with 790 team members. Perhaps the loudest group on Race day was our High School Division winner, for the sixth year in a row, the Hamilton Township Rangers, with 805 team members.Our team t-shirt contest winner is Cousins Kickin’ It. Thank you so much for your support and congratulations on being the crowd favorite!
In order to make next year’s Race for the Cure even more successful, we ask that you please complete our brief survey . We want to know what YOU thought about this year’s Race, registration process and much, much more!
Remember, you are able to fundraise until May 31st – 75% of these funds stay in Central and Southeastern Ohio to fund education, screening and treatment programs and 25% of these funds goes toward funding for ground-breaking breast cancer research.
