A Brave Warrior Passes Away

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our friend, Wendy Ward. On Friday, May 18, Wendy peacefully passed away surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Wendy was the winner of our first Most Courageous Survivor Mom contest. The Columbus Dispatch wrote a beautiful article last year of Wendy and her Race team, “Wendy’s Warriors.”

Wendy was diagnosed with aggressive stage three breast cancer in June 2010 and had eight intensive rounds of chemotherapy, a mastectomy, radiation, and reconstruction surgery.

The entire Komen Columbus staff share our deepest condolences with Wendy’s husband Chris and their entire family. Wendy was a wonderful woman, mother, wife and friend. She will be missed, but her passing motivates us to continue the fight to end breast cancer forever.

Wendy is survived by her loving husband, Chris and their adoring children, three-year-old Jack and six-year-old Caroline.

We invite you to share your condolences; we will pass them along to Wendy’s family.
