One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Unfortunately, women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in Ohio are more likely to die than almost anywhere in the U.S. This could be your family, a friend, or even a coworker. Our mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
We continue to be amazed each year by the amount of support received from local media to help spread our message. We are honored to have several familiar faces and voices in central Ohio participating in the 2016 Komen Columbus Race for the Cure on Saturday, May 14.
10TV’s Angela An and Mike Davis will start the day at the Survivor Ceremony. The two will be celebrating all survivors in attendance and get the crowd ready for the race! The Survivor Ceremony begins at 8 a.m. in the west plaza of City Hall.
At the 5K start stage, located at the corner of Front and Elm Streets, both of our emcees are breast cancer survivors. ABC6/FOX28’s Maria Durant and NBC4’s Robyn Haines will kick-off the annual premier event. The 5K begins at 8:45 a.m.
If you’re participating in the Family Fun Walk, Ellie Merritt from NBC4 and Terri Sullivan from ABC6/FOX28 will be cheering on you on as you make their way across the start line. The Family Fun Walk begins at 9:15 a.m.
For all the survivors who cross the finish line, you’ll find Misty Jordan from Magic 95.5FM and 10TV’s Kristyn Hartman handing out high-fives and a lot of hugs. Survivors will receive their survivor medals and pink rose at the finish line.
“The Komen Columbus Race is special and one of a kind,” said Nicolle Racey, director of communications and marketing at Komen Columbus, “We are fortunate to have all the TV, radio and print publications in town come together and take a unified stand against breast cancer. Collectively their voices are powerful and it just shows that our community is in this together. It’s truly a beautiful thing.”
